Mini Mukherjee March 2, 2016 An Afternoon with Dr. Seuss Mini Mukherjee March 2, 2016 Artwork by Mini Mukherjee: Gouache paint, Faber-Castell Black Pen and Prismacolor Black It was a rainy and thunderous SaturdayAnd all we wanted to do was play. No phones, iPads, nor laptops were aroundWe would watch TV but Dad hates the sound. We wished for outside, sun shiningWe didn’t mind when the light felt blinding. We sat there, we two.Hooting and hollering, boo-hoo-hooWhat would Sis and I do? Then Mom gave us a book to shareShe would do anything to get us out of her hair. Read a book? How absurd! And the title “The Cat in the Hat,” what silly words! The book cover was faded and the pages smellyMom Said she got thE book a long time ago in Delhi Sis in a loud voice began reading to meI piped down, eventually I liked this Cat in the HatWith his red bowtie and how he sat. But then we met Thing 1 and Thing 2And I told my sister, “That’s me, that’s you!” How I enjoyed reading about these naughty beingsThey made me laugh so hard, I was screaming. We passed the time this wayIn another world, a place far, far away. I won’t wait for a rainy day to read a book, oh noBecause, who knows the places I’ll go! - HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS! -
